Coalition asks sponsor not to “rubber stamp” Concept Schools

A coalition of parents, teachers and students have asked an Ohio charter school sponsor, Buckeye Community Hope Foundation, not to renew the charter schools run by Concept Schools with contracts expiring in 2015. Amy Hanauer, Executive Director of Policy Matters Ohio, said,
“We’ve done a lot of research on Ohio charter schools, but I think this is the first time we’ve seen a charter school operator, Concept Schools Inc., hit the trifecta: poor academic performance, allegations of wrongdoing from former teachers, and an FBI raid.”
The letter to Buckeye Community Hope's Education Division Director, Peggy Young, outlines the history of FBI raids, poor academic performance, allegations of sexual misconduct and test tampering. Other coalition members include the Ohio PTA, Ohio Federation of Teachers and In The Public Interest.
